The hardest thing to do right now is to imagine yourself as a fan of Sri Lankan Cricket since the bad days do not seem to stop for the nation for quite a long time. It is difficult to see the team that previously was unbeatable and made their way into many tournament finals comprehensively considering the fact that they were the toughest team to beat back then, but now are struggling to succeed as they have recently suffered a whitewash against India in One Day Internationals as well as in the Test series that too on their home turf and infront of their own people.
Ever since the farewell of the two Sri Lankan Greats that kept the National Team together and made them look like a competitive side Mahela Jayawardene and Kumar Sangakkara, The Lankan Lions have failed to roar as loud as they used to in the past. The Retirement of the duo has hit them big time and they are yet to find a duo that are capable of replacing them as these two had such a huge impact on Sri Lankan Cricket. Now the Sri Lankans have made it quite clear that they were a destructive side when Mahela and Sanga wore the International Colours on, but now without them The Sri Lankan Team is on the verge of playing World Cup qualifiers in order to make their way into the tournament after losing successive matches which would obviously disappoint many Sri Lankan Legends other than this particular duo.
The same team that had previously whitwashed Australia in a series, Won a T20 world cup a few years ago has now tasted defeats against teams like Zimbabwe, Scotland that are not known as big teams in World Cricket and certainly not the teams that could beat Sri Lanka but the unexpected happened and the Lankans were handed major losses due to the unbalanced combination of the playing XI and inconsistent performances along with lack of senior players in the side. There have been a handful of experienced players in the side lately like Upul Tharanga, Dinesh Chandimal and Lasith Malinga so this would put pressure on the youngsters to perform and take the responsibility of winning matches for the nation but unfortunately the young players failed to absorb the pressure resulting in continuous defeats.
The Sri Lanka Cricket Team is going through a bad phase currently as nothing is going their way and they are sinking at a very quick speed although There is no doubt that Sri Lanka does have the talent to do well but currently a lot of senior players have retired and the younger players have not been able to perform well, which has been the main reason behind Sri Lanka’s downfall in recent times.
