Asia Cup 2018

Arch Rivals all set to meet once again

The days are getting warmer in Dubai and the classical Arch Rivals are all set to have another clash on the upcoming Wednesday the 19th of september in the Asia cup. India and Pakistan have not faced each other in any form of cricket since the famous ICC Champions trophy final in 2019. The fans are expecting a thrilling contest a sold out crowd in the Dubai Cricket Stadium.

India have recently completed a full tour of England, which has not been very pleasing for them in terms of the results. They will be coming with a fresh mindset and forget their ODI and Test series loss to perform well in the Asia cup. Pakistan on the other hand has had a successful Tour of Zimbabwe back in July, where they showed true character with their ruthless performances in limited over cricket. They question is, will they be able to show a similar kind of performance against the arch rivals? Only the time will tell.

However, the indian fans not long ago have had a shocking news of Kohli not attending the Asia cup 2019. How much will this hurt india? Kohli, who has received two important MOM awards in last five ODI clashes between the two teams, is taking a rest from the Asia cup. Rohit Sharma will be leading the side throughout the tournament. The indians fans are furious for the number one ODI batsman not attending the Asia cup, and rightly so. India played without Kohli back in May 2018, where they won the breathtaking final of Nidahas Trophy under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma, chasing 166 against the Bangladesh Tigers.

Pakistan after an expected comprehensive win over Hong Kong, are on top of the table with a win in their backpack. Captain Sarfaraz Ahmad is happy with the overall performance, but mentions that he would rather have liked a 9-10 wicket win. Sarfaraz also mentioned that he is not too happy with the opening pace bowlers not taking early wickets. He expects them to strike early and well against the arch rivals on Wednesday.

India and Pakistan last five ODI matches have been a 3-2 result to India, the last one been played in KIA Oval, Headingley in the champions trophy Final. Reports suggest that Pakistan have the edge this time given their recent performance and Kohli’s absence. Sarfaraz’s Impressive record of 100% in limited over cricket at UAE winning 14 of 14 matches since 2016, gives the advantage to Pakistan by a slight margin. But an India Pakistan game can never be taken lightly by any of the two nations. Can Rohit and his men beat the Green Team without King Kohli? Your question will be answered Wednesday night.

Key to success
Before India face their Rivals, they have one match to be played against Hong Kong, which is expected an Indian win by the fans. India will be willing to perform well and find a balanced XI for the big game against Pakistan. India’s key to success will be their top order scoring heavily. With Kohli being absent, the pressure will be on Rohit, Dhawan and Rahul in order to give India the score they would wish for. India’s strength in batting needs to click, and the top 3 will play a major role in order to challenge the Green team. However, Pakistan’s key to success will be their seam bowlers striking early. Mohammad Amir has been criticised a lot for not making it up for his expectations by the fans. Being wicketless in last three ODIS, is a

concern for the fans. Sarfaraz will be expecting his trio (Amir, Shinwari and Hasan) along with Fahim to deliver on the big stage.

The fans are ready around the world to witness a good expected contest in 40+ degrees between the rivals. The answer all are waiting for is, who will earn the massive respect and who will be drowned in criticism at the DCS. ARE YOU READY?
