Pakistan vs Australia – First ODI Pakistan tour to Australia after a span of 7 years. Last time when Pakistan visited under Muhammad Yousuf’s captaincy, Australia whitewashed Pakistan in both, Test and ODI series. Recently, Pakistan lost the test series by 3-0 under captaincy of Misbah ul Haq. There was hardly any expectation of winning in ODIs under Azhar‘s Captaincy. As per expectations, Australia defeated Pakistan by 92 runs in the first ODI at Brisbane. Australia won the toss and elected to bat first resulting in early collapse of Warner and Smith in two consecutive balls of Amir’s third over. The debutant Lynn, who has bashed the bowlers over the park in BigBash 2016, hardly conquered the Pakistani Bowlers and was taken by young Hasan. Imad Wasim continued to impress with his bowling, and took two quick wickets of Head and S.Marsh. At that time Australia was 78 for 5 with Maxwell and Wade on the crease. Maxwell and Wade made 82 runs-stand for 6th wicket. Maxwell was taken by Hasan just after his fifty. Faulkner didn’t resist and was taken by Hafeez in slip. Wade was well supported by Cummins and Starc, finished at a run-a-ball hundred. It was his highest ODI score. Wade showed his capability with the bat after he finished the recent test series against Pakistan with an average of 15.33. Hasan Ali was pick of the bowler for Pakistan and took 3 wickets for 65 in 9 overs. Imad and Amir took two wickets each for 35 and 54 respectively. Wahab could not able to pick any wicket and just bowled 6 overs. Pakistan started to chase with the run rate of less than five; Sharjeel was taken by Maxwell at mid on. Azhar Ali was retired hurt after having pain in hamstring. Hafeez hardly stayed for two overs and was taken in slip. Umar Akmal and Babar Azam buildup partnership of 32 runs. Umar Akmal could not sustain bouncer from Mitchell Starc. Babar was caught in slip when team’s score was 109. Rizwan batted with strike rate of 47 and was caught in deep by S. Marsh. Muhammad Nawaz was bowled by Starc at 1. Azhar Ali returned to the crease but he was hardly able to run between the wickets. Imad and Azhar showed some resistance but Imad was caught by Warner in the thirty-ninth over. Faulkner took the wickets of injured Azhar and Amir in two consecutive overs. The last wicket of Wahab was taken by Pat Cummins. James Faulkner proved himself as the pick of the bowler and took 4 wickets for 32 in 7 overs. Pat Cummins took 3 wickets for 33 runs. Wade was announced as the Player of the Match for his 100 ball Century. This was their 9th consecutive (ODIs) win at home against Pakistan. They defeated Pakistan back in 2005. Pakistan is still looking for their first win on this tour. Azhar’s serious injury may lead an empty slot for captaincy in next matches. Let see, either Hafeez as a senior player or talented Imad, will be crowned Captaincy by Pakistan Cricket Board.
