Azhar Ali Through His Ups and Down

Azhar Ali got his first call up for Pakistan test squad back in 2010 when the selectors were looking for someone to replace Muhammad Yousuf.

Azhar struggled at the pitches of England and New Zealand in his debut year. But in 2012 his career had a turning point and he gave some lethal performances.

Azhar Ali is one of the players alongside Misbah ul-Haq who have worked hard for Pakistan after the spot fixing scandal.

Azhar Ali used to bat at one man down or sometimes used to come at number 4 but later he was tested as an opener which turned out to be a good decision. Azhar is known for his good technique and patience which make him a perfect player for the the test format. Azhar Averages 46.87 in 59 test matches. He has scored 13 Hundreds and 25 Fifties. He scored his first double hundred back in 2012 against Sri Lanka in Dubai.

However he had some poor performances in 2013 during the tours of South Africa and Zimbabwe. He was dropped from the playing squad for the first two tests against Sri Lanka in UAE but he made a brilliant comeback and scored 103 runs in the third match which Pakistan won comprehensively.
In summer 2016 he showed some brilliant performances in England including a brilliant knock of 139 at Old Trafford. He later scored a triple hundred in Dubai against West Indies which is his highest score.

Azhar proved himself one of the finest batsman who could play in tough conditions of New Zealand, Australia and England. He gave some impressive performances last year in away tours. He scored an unforgettable double hundred at the MCG against Australia.

Over the years Azhar Ali had a bumpy ride and it took him a lot of time to make his name. He is recognized as one of the best test batsman in the world. He’s been more than an opener for Pakistan in recent years. He has patience to play big innings and a will to improve his performance. He always tries to be on the crease as long as possible. Azhar Ali has shown full potential to be one of the best batsman Pakistan has ever produced in test cricket.
