Performance of Bangladesh Cricket Team in 2019

Bangladesh Cricket Team is a team whose performance is sometimes roaring like a tiger and sometimes meowing like a cat. Their journey in the calendar year 2019 has been average so far as they started the play with the ball and bat by 13th February 2019.

The Bangladeshi tigers first faced New Zealand in a three-match ODI series where they got clean swiped by Williamson’s men brutally; all with the wider margins. Then they stepped ahead to the two-match Test series against a similar opponent and lost 0-2. The time must have been mediocre on Bangladesh as of their performance.

Moving to one-off ODI tournaments, they faced West Indies thrice and Ireland twice where they beat West Indies in all three and Ireland in a single match as one of the two matches against Ireland was abandoned without a ball being bowled.

The journey of Bangladesh in England and Wales Cricket World Cup has not been exceptional in all the departments. One of the warm-up matches against Pakistan was called-off due to rain and in another, India did not let them win.

The tournament matches either were not that good. They managed to win the first game against South Africa then lost two consecutive matches against New Zealand and England. The next match against Sri Lanka, however, was called off due to rain but they managed to win against West Indies by keen efforts. The next opponent like Australia must have been hard for them to bear as they lost the game but, won the next against Afghanistan. They got kicked off the tournament as they lost the next two against India and Pakistan respectively and couldn’t even manage to reach the semi-finals.

After the termination of the World Cup, the three-match ODI series between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka was played where Sri Lanka whitewashed them humiliating the team’s reputation badly. This was the second clean sweep they faced in a single year.

With another defeat in the one-off Tests tournament against Afghanistan, destiny pushed ahead Bangladesh to the victory in the first one-off T20 match of the tournament against Zimbabwe. Afghanistan declared a win over them in the next match and then they defeated Afghanistan in the 6th match, however, the 7th and the final game with a similar opponent as of the 6th match got delayed without a ball being bowled.

Kicking off the T20I series against Bangladesh might have provided them a chance to deprive India of a win as Bangladesh, Pakistan, and India are rivals since birth, so the game is always aggressive. They lost two matches out of three again with a whitewash further in a two-match Test series.

This is how the year 2019 worked for the Bangladesh cricket team. The players only acted upon average in all three departments. The skills now need to be polished as ICC T20 World Cup is near and they have recently chosen a new skipper as well.
