Cook’s Early Departure & Root As A Captain

English Captain’s statement over the captaincy has made everyone curious about the future of English test team’s captaincy.

If Alastair quits Joe Root would be the automatic choice for captaincy. As Cook has already mentioned that Joe Root is ready to lead the side. But the question rises that is he really ready to lead the national team? Where he doesn’t have any experience of captaining any side, although he has led Yorkshire and England Loins a couple of time before but leading a national side is a different thing. As next winters England is going to play away Ashes. Having a new captain could make some trouble for England. Captaining is not only in setting the field and doing special in the ground. Captain has to lead in from everywhere. Alastair has his say in the dressing room as well. Players have respect for him on and off the field. He has gained respect of his teammates and fans over years. His records as captain and his personal batting records show that he has some brilliant understanding with his partners. Now what if he suddenly quits captaincy and hand over it to Joe Root, who is astounding in tackling the pressure situations, but captaining is a different cup of tea one has to have a good say in dressing room, no matter how confident he is things will become harsh for him when he would be having senior players like James Anderson and Stuart Broad. At some point according to condition he would have to drop one of key players, how will he be able to drop someone who is all time leading wicket taker of the country, or someone who has won matches for the country. ECB has to make Alastair Cook stay till Ashes next winters, and groom Joe Root to lead and to gain confidence of the mates over him as a captain. Although England needs to have someone who can be a long term Skipper of the side and without any doubt Joe Root is the best to be successor of Alastair Cook but in future not now.
