Azhar Ali, Recently removed as Pakistan one-day international cricket team captain has also been dropped from the one day squad. It has been a very hard start of the year for Azhar Ali but keeping an eye on his performances as captain simply states what were the reasons why he was dropped but a bit unfair when dropping him from the squad.
Azhar Ali as Pakistan captain had some several records of win ratio and his personal achievements which measures the bond of his success and failure in his two years of captaincy. During his captaincy fans were not much satisfied, but he gave some exciting and happy moments too. He captained Pakistani side in 31 matches with 12 wins and 18 loss (1 match resulting in no result). He played series with some major and difficult teams but wasn’t able to defeat any teams other than Sri Lanka and Windies whitewash. A shocking sign from his captaincy was that he was the first Pakistani captain to lose a series against Bangladesh. It was devastating for the fans to digest that defeat.
Azhar Ali had various achievements as a batsmen and some as Pakistani captain too. He scored handful 1153 runs in his 31 matches as skipper with an average of 37.19 and healthy strike rate of 79.90. He was also the fastest Pakistani captain to score 1000 runs in odi. He was also the one to score most odi hundreds as Pakistani odi captain and he also scored the highest number of runs in an innings in England Pakistani captain. His short period of captaincy also includes number of 3 centuries and 5 fifties. He was outstanding with the bat and shouldn’t be dropped from the side.
There were number of fans who criticised Azhar when the support was needed was the most, many were pondering about the future captain once he was leading, he did his best with the role he was given to but he didn’t summed up every thing well and in the end it was him who suffered the removal of skipper.
