Shan Masood was interviewed by Dr. Nauman Niaz, host of PTV sports “Game On Hai.”
Shan reflected his life experience with Pakistan’s highest Test run scorer Younus Khan.
He scored his first test century in the third test against Sri Lanka in 2015, where he scored 125 and also shared a stand of 242 with Younus in Pakistan’s successfully chase of 382.
“First of all, when I used to watch cricket, I saw Younus batting at different positions like opening, at 6 or 7. Sometimes keeping, sometimes bowling off breaks or medium pace. I love these types of characteristics, says Shan
“When I came, there were a lot of superstars like Shahid Afridi and Shoaib Malik. And a lot of youngsters inclined towards them and wanted to be like them.”
Shan was more into Younus Khan. Both he and Younus have represented Habib Bank Limited and UBL in Pakistan’s First Class cricket. Shan believes that his lifestyle and his cricket routines have inspired him.
“Whether it’s fielding or batting or whether it’s different ground, his routine was something I always like. His kitbag was well organized as if it was bookshelf. And if you look at his room, everything was in order. I think it’s a prime example of us.”
Shan reflected on these moments “I think the biggest thing he had was limitations in his life. He overcome those limitations and went on to become Pakistan’s greatest batsman.”
Shan also says that Younus wasn’t just a batsman but a mentor to them during their days in first-class cricket. He used to promote himself down the order so that those guys would come up the order and he asked them to win matches. Younus Khan used to give his players life lessons through various ways.
