Moeen Ali dropped by England for the 2nd Ashes Test

England has dropped Moeen Ali from their test squad for the 2nd Ashes Test at Lord’s. Left arm spinner Jack Leach has been called up to replace him. Moeen Ali had scores of 0 and 4 and picked up 3/172 in the match. Moeen fell to right arm off spinner Nathan Lyon in both innings of the match. Lyon has now dismissed Moeen 9 times in his last 11 innings. Moeen Ali’s form has been a concern since the World Cup, where he was dropped during the tournament. James Anderson and Olly Stone also miss out on selection, due to injuries. Jofra Archer has been called up to the side, expected to make his test debut at Lord’s, after proving his fitness in a 3 day match for Sussex 2nd XI, claiming 7 wickets and scoring a century. England have also selected Sam Curran who was recently part of the Ireland test at Lord’s.

England have kept Jonny Bairstow, Joe Denly and Jos Buttler who struggled in the first test, the selectors have avoided making big changes for the second test. Rory Burns had a memorable Ashes test, scoring his maiden test century. England will be hoping that their batsmen can find some form at Lord’s, after struggling against the Aussies at Edgbaston.
