After continuously working hard and giving good performances regularly, if a Cricketer still does not gets what he deserves and that is further selection which can be very frustrating. Another Victom of constant selection rejections is a right arm fast bowler Ghulam Abbas Haider who was getting ignored day by day and things went out of control when the cricketer ran onto the LCCA Ground and tried to pour petrol on himself during a match.
Totally annoyed with the Pakistan Cricket Board, Abbas accused the selectors for asking him to pay in order to play for Lahore. Abbas also stated that the reason behind not selecting him for Lahore was the fact that he belongs to a poor family. Fed up with the false promises made by the officials, Ghulam Abbas Haider threatened to end his life by setting himself on fire at the main entrance of the Gaddafi Stadium.
Selecting players on merit has been a concern in Pakistan as previously many players that were talented but not given proper chances to prove themselves by the Board which was also what forced Ghulam Abbas Haider to take such a bold step of interrupting a match and attempt to take his life.
So, the Board should look into this matter and give Abbas a chance to play First Class Cricket for Lahore which he rightly deserves as he has been delivering good performances in the East Zone, Lahore association. Not only him but other Cricketers that do not get much opportunities to express themselves so that such incidents can be avoided in the future.
