The deliverance of the Sri Lanka Cricket Team in the calendar year 2019 has been miserably awkward and below the standards, as they served many whitewashes against the different teams. They barely managed to win the game in all three formats. The poor captaincy and the slammed deliverance of the players affect the rating of the team as well.
Sri Lanka Cricket Team kicked off their 2019 with a three-match ODI series against New Zealand where they faced a brutal clean sweep by Williamson’s Kiwis. In a one-off T20 match against a similar opponent, Sri Lanka got trashed again.
The cricketing activities for the Sri Lanka Cricket Team went ahead as they faced Australia in a two-match Test series. Looked like the year initiatives were much unfortunate for Sri Lankans the side lost both of the five-day format games.
The matches against South Africa began where they started off with a win in the two-match Test series. Moving ahead, the side was again miserably slammed as South Africa Cricket Team declared a magnificent victory over them winning all the five matches in a five-match ODI series. Facing South Africa in the T20I series comprising three matches, the side against faced a horrendous whitewash.
SLC arranged a two-match ODI against Scotland, a less popular team in cricket, where Sri Lanka won the second game luckily as the first match got abandoned without a ball being bowled.
The journey in the ICC World Cup 2019 also was not sound enough to be appreciated. They began with two consecutive losses in the warm-up matches against South Africa and Australia respectively. When the tournament matches began, out of nine matches they got indulged in, they managed to win three as the two matches got abandoned due to England’s cloud burst.
After the termination of ICC World Cup 2019, Bangladesh vs Sri Lanka’s three-match ODI series was arranged. Sri Lanka that time got a stroke of good luck as they clean swept the opponent in all three games.
Stepping ahead to the two-Test matches against Kiwis, Lankas got an equivalent result as Kiwis won one of the games. However, they lost two out of three T20 matches against a similar opponent.
Sri Lanka team visited Pakistan in 2019 where they faced the home side in a three-match ODI format. One of the three games got abandoned and Pakistan whitewashed the side winning rest of the games. Sri Lanka junior team then trashed Pakistan in a three-match T20 serious. It is to be noted that Pakistan’s performance in 2019 was a bit similar to that of Sri Lanka, or maybe a just bit better. That was the time when their horrendous performance deprived them of a skipper like Sarfaraz Ahmad.
Coming back to Sri Lanka Cricket Team performance in 2019, they then faced Australia in a three-match T20 series. Seemed like the year 2019 has marked as an era of clean sweeps for Sri Lanka as Australia magnificently won all of the games with a wider enough margin.
After the security issues in Pakistan were resolved, SLC sent the senior team to Pakistan as they agreed for a two-match test series out of which the first test got drew between both sides and Pakistan won the second and the last one by 263 runs.
This marked an end to the performance of Sri Lanka Cricket Team in 2019, or else we can say, this marked an end to the year of defeats and whitewashes for Lankans.
The year 2020 might have brought surplus luck but the Coronavirus pandemic has brought a standstill to all the sports activities across the globe. Let’s pray for better and stay safe; stay away to make the globe a better and healthy place to stay.
