The 5 match ODI series between Pakistan and Zimbabwe that started on 13 July and ended on 22 July turned out to be miraculous for Pakistan. They proved themselves as a tremendously strong team and established many new records while whitewashing the opponent team.
In the first ODI match of the series, Pakistani batsmen set up a total of 308 runs with the loss of 7 wickets. Zimbabwe could only score 107 runs giving all their wickets to Pakistan bowlers. In the second match Zimbabwe decision of batting first turned out unfortunate as the batsman were all out on not a very relaxing total of 194 which Pakistan batsmen chased very comfortably in only the duration of 36 overs losing only one wicket. In the third ODI, Zimbabwe once again tried their luck and tested their talent by choosing to bat first. Pakistani bowlers with their exceptional bowling sent all the opponent batsmen back to pavilion on a very small total of 67 in 25.1 overs. Pakistani batsman chased the total with a very relaxing approach in only 9.5 overs with the loss of one wicket. The 4th ODI was one of the most one-sided as Pakistani batsmen put up a gigantic total of 399 runs on the board and in return Zimbabwe could only score 155 being all out in 42.4 overs. In the 5th and Final ODI Pakistan scored a convincing total of 364 runs with the loss of 4 wickets. The Zimbabwe batsmen stepped into ground with improved strategy but still their effort wasn’t enough to overcome the Pakistan Team and was only be able to score 234 runs with the loss of 4 wickets in 50 overs.
Coming to the list of records attained by Pakistan team is just extraordinary. With the help of this whitewash, Pakistan becomes the team with the most ODI (5-0) whitewash which are 7 in number. The total of 399 is the 17th highest by any team in ODI. The record of highest opening partnership of 304 runs executed by duo of Fakhar Zaman and Imam-ul-Haq also belongs to Pakistan. Fakhar Zaman becomes the 1st Pakistani and the 8th international batsman to enter the double century scoring club. He also names other records of becoming the fastest cricketer to score 1000 runs in just 18 innings and scoring the most runs-515 in a bilateral series. His opening partner Imam-ul-Haq didn’t also stay back and made three centuries in this series. This took Haq’s total to an incredible four hundreds in nine matches which are the quickest by any batsman. 705 runs in this series have been added by this duo, with four 100-plus stands. No other duo in history has been successful to achieve this. The senior player Shoaib Malik also made this series memorable for him by becoming the 8th Pakistani batsman to complete 7000 runs in ODI. The young all-rounder Fahim Ashraf also showcased his talent by taking his first 5 wicket haul. The 18 year old terrifically gifted boy Shadab Khan was able to succeed in taking his best ODI bowling figures which are 4/28. The new big thing from PSL, Asif Ali grabbed attention by scoring his first half century on just 22 balls in his debut series. The fast bowler Junaid Khan made a magnificent comeback as he became the 6th Pakistani bowler to achieve the milestone of taking 100 wickets in ODI cricket.
This series turned out to be an amazing platform for the batsmen to all-rounders to bowlers in proving their skills and in breaking many records and making many new ones. Not only the team members are satisfied but the fans too are immensely proud by their team’s professional and startling cricketing skills. It will not be wrong to say that Pakistan team is on the verge of becoming a better team day by day which will be unstoppable in upcoming years. The cute moment between Hassan Ali and Shadab Khan in which Hassan Ali couldn’t do his unique celebration so instead his best friend did it for him was icing on the cake.
