Saud Shakeel named as captain for ACC emerging teams Asia Cup 2019

Lahore: Pakistani U19 top order batsman, Saud Shakeel has been named as the captain along with Rohail Nazeer as a vice-captain for upcoming fifty overs ACC emerging teams Asia Cup which will take place in Cox’s Bazar and Mirpur, Bangladesh, from 12-23 November 2019.

The batsman has been featured in three national T20 cups in Faisalabad and has also been a part of three games of this season’s Quaid e Azam trophy representing Sindh.

Rohail, who has been appointed as the vice-captain for the upcoming tournament has remained U19 team captain since April. Recently, he has captained Northern in their fifth round fixture against Southern Punjab. In the National T20 Cup, he appeared in seven matches, while he has played in all five Quaid-e-Azam Trophy fixtures to date.

The finalized squad is the result of amalgamated efforts of senior and junior committees. As per the requirements of the conditions, 11 of the players are under the age of twenty three; while the rest of four players are above the age of twenty three.

Despite of selecting players on the basis of their performances in Quaid e Azam trophy, National T20 cup, National U19 three day tournament, and National U19 one day tournament, selection committee have also put their attention on Mohammad Hasnain and Khushdil Shah who currently are on their national duty in Australia. They will be joining the side very soon.

Pakistan have been set in Group A alongside Afghanistan, Sri Lanka and Oman, and will play all their three matches in Cox’s Bazar against Afghanistan on 14 November. Group B incorporates India, Bangladesh, Hong Kong and Nepal, with class matches to be played in Dhaka.

Mirpur will have the three knock out matches with the two semi-finals on 20 and 21 November and the last on 23 November. The first semi-finals will be between Group A champ and Group B runners up, while the 21 November second semi-last will be between Group B victor and Group A runners up.
