Former India opener Virender Sehwag has revealed that iconic batsman Sachin Tendulkar was the only person who thought Pakistan captain Sarfraz Ahmed had made a mistake when he opted to bowl first in his side’s World Cup clash against India last Sunday.
Sarfraz’s decision to bowl proved disastrous as India posted a mammoth score of 336/5 behind opener Rohit Sharma’s 140 and captain Virat Kohli’s 77.
In response, Pakistan struggled to keep up with the required run rate and lost wickets at crucial moments in the match. As a result, they ended up losing to India by 89 runs via the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern method.
“From all the people at the ground including Wasim Akram, Ramiz Raja, Sachin Tendulkar etc, every person said that whichever captain wins the toss will choose to field, except for one person and that person was Sachin Tendulkar,” said Virendar Sehwag.
“He [Tendulkar] said that whenever there’s an India-Pakistan match, you shouldn’t look at anything else, not the weather, not the wicket. It’s a big game and there’s a lot of pressure on both sides, it’s better to [enjoy] pressure-free batting because even if you make 150 runs, there’s a chance of winning.”
Sarfraz was badly criticised for this decision and a lot of people blamed him for defeat against India.
Pakistan’s only world cup winning captaiin Imran Khan on June 16 advised skipper Sarfaraz Ahmed to go in with specialists in the batting and bowling departments.
“In order to have a winning offensive strategy Sarfaraz must go in with specialist batsmen and bowlers,” Khan posted on Twitter.
Khan also said that both teams will be under “great mental pressure, and the power of the mind will decide the outcome of the match. In Sarfaraz we are fortunate to have a bold captain & today he will have to be at his daring best”.
4/5 1. In order ro have a winning offensive strategy Sarfaraz must go in with specialist batsmen and bowlers because “Raillu Kattas” rarely perform under pressure – especially the intense kind that will be generated today. 2. Unless pitch is damp, Sarfaraz must win the toss & bat

Pakistan’s veteran all-rounder Mohammad Hafeez has backed the team’s decision to bowl first against arch-rivals India during the 2019 International Cricket Council (ICC) World Cup encounter.
While talking to media in London, Hafeez said that they can’t make decisions based on tweets.
“Team’s decision can’t be made on what someone has tweeted. It was team’s decision. We didn’t bowl well and that’s why we lost that game,” Hafeez said.
