South Africa began with a three-test series with Pakistan. In which the first test was held in the last week of December 2018. They whitewashed Pakistan 3-0 before meeting them in the ODI series.

Following the 5 match ODI series, they lost the first 1 before winning the next 2. The 4th ODI was the pink ODI in support of “breast cancer” awareness and they never lost the game in pinks. However, Pakistan came up with top-notch performance and ended their streak to tie the series 2-2. In the series decider, SA beat Pakistan by 7 wickets to seal the series.

Following the 3 matches T20I series, the first two games were very close and SA managed to win by 6 and 7 runs to seal the series as well as ending Pakistan’s streak of 9 consecutive series wins. They lost the final one by 27 runs.

Sri Lanka then toured South Africa for full series of w Tests, 5 ODIs and 3 T20Is. To everyone’s shock, they lost the Test series to the inspiring Sri Lankan tigers as they became the first Asian team to win Test series in South Africa.

The ODI series, however, SA didn’t spare them and won 5-0 before winning 3-0 T20I series as well

Their next major assignment was the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019. It was perhaps their worst world cup performance they have ever given. They only managed to win against Afghanistan, Australia, and Sri Lanka and were in a bad position against the West Indies before the game being washed out.

Their two stars JP Duminy and Imran Tahir took retirement from ODIs following the end of their campaign.

Their next assignment was the tour of India where they played 3 WTC matches and 3 T20Is.

They lost comprehensively against India in all the three WTC matches however they draw the T20I series 1-1 with the first game was washed out.

South Africa began their year very well apart from that shocking Test series defeat. But as the year progressed, they lost their way.
