World Cup 2019 for the men in green has been a topsy turvy ride. It has been a battle of nerves for the nation and players as well. One moment they’re down and out, at the very next moment they’re right back on top of their game.
Former champions Sri Lanka are all but out of the ongoing ICC World Cup after suffering a nine-wicket loss against a clinical South Africa, in Durham on Friday, 28 June.
Hashim Amla and Faf du Plessis powered South Africa to a nine-wicket victory over Sri Lanka on Friday, dealing a huge blow to the Asian side´s hopes of reaching the World Cup semi-finals.
Amla (80) and captain Du Plessis (96) put on an unbeaten 175 for the second wicket as South Africa cruised to victory in the 38th over, finishing on 206 for one.
Sri Lanka were struggling after defeats to New Zealand and Australia and two washouts before reviving their World Cup chances with a shock win against hosts England last week.
But, with six points from seven games, the 1996 champions have now slipped behind England, Bangladesh and Pakistan in the race to qualify from the round-robin phase.
Apart from all this, one thing Proteas are topping the log at is memes – and the king is none other than Proteas spinner Imran Tahir!
Tahir has picked up 10 wickets to date and with each one came his customary exuberant celebration which sees him sprinting off towards midwicket – or the covers.
Imran Tahir 40, the oldest cricketer to play from South Africa in a World Cup tournament, was born in Pakistan and even played for the junior team in 1988. Interestingly enough he met his lady love of Indian origin in South Africa and both decided to get married. Imran Tahir moved to South Africa and got his chance to play for the Proteas in 2011.
He became the highest wicket taker for South Africa in a World Cup, hence his victory lap more so.
His unique wicket-taking celebrations are something no cricketing fan will ever forget but it look’s like that Rabada is not much happy with his [Imran Tahir’s] unique celebration.
Here’s the video of Rabada’s reaction on Imran Tahir’s celebration:
