Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin heaped praise on Pakistan captain Babar Azam in a conversation with former Men in Green’s skipper Inzamamul Haq on his YouTube channel.
While seeking Inzamam’s opinion on Babar, Ashwin revealed that he enjoys watching the Pakistan skipper bat.
“Babar Azam looks like a million dollar player. He has scored a hundred in Australia. It is so good to see him bat so well. He is a treat for the eyes. What do you think about Babar Azam?” Ashwin asked.
Inzamam was equally appreciative of Babar but believes that the Lahore-born batsman is yet to perform to his full potential.
“He is simply a great player. The kind of talent he has, he needs to perform even better. He has only played international cricket for five years. A batsman reaches his peak after playing international cricket for seven or eight years, so Babar is yet to reach his peak and he will do even better in coming years,” Inzamam said.
Pakistan Cricket Team is all set to travel to New Zealand under Babar’s captaincy. Pakistan announced its tour to New Zealand in September this year. The two teams will play three T20Is and two Tests from December 18 to January 7.
The team will depart in the last week of November after which they will enter a two-week quarantine period in Lincoln following New Zealand government’s COVID-19 protocols.
Pakistan’s captain Babar Azam said that the team is very excited to go on its New Zealand tour, adding that it will perform to the best of its abilities.
Addressing a press conference in Lahore, Azam said that players are well-prepared to take on the challenge.
“We are playing back to back and are confident about our performance,” Babar Azam said. “Our record in New Zealand has been good. We will play good cricket.”
