The UEFA Champions League race is far more poised this season, with English Clubs stepping up and looking a major threat. As usual, the battle will be between teams of Europe’s top five leagues, but here are some teams that have been playing incredible football lately and could very well win UEFA Champions League.
By now it should be accepted that whatever Pep Guardiola touches, turns into gold. Not taking credit away from the players, but Pep has revolutionized the way Manchester City play. Manchester City currently sit top of the table with huge lead of 8 points over the second-placed team, their rivals, Manchester United. All of their players are in sublime form. With Manchester City beating Liverpool 5-0, Arsenal 3-1 and Napoli 4-2, there’s no doubt they seem favourites to win UEFA Champions League this time. Manchester City currently top their group in Champions League with a 3 point lead.
Although Barcelona haven’t been playing up to their full potential, results have been coming their way since the start of the season. Except for the two defeats vs Real Madrid in Super Copa in the very start of the season, Barcelona hasn’t faced a single defeat since then. The new manager’s, Ernesto Valverde, tactics have been working out, as Barcelona currently sit top of the La Liga table with 4 point lead over 2nd placed Valencia CF, and 8 point lead over fierce rivals, Real Madrid. With the kind of form and luck they are having, they also seem to be hot favorites for winning UEFA Champions League this time. Barcelona currently sit top of their group in Champions League with a 3 point lead over Juventus.
Paris Saint Germain
As if their team wasn’t strong enough, Paris bought Neymar from Barca for record-breaking $263 Million, and also bought the young prodigy, Kylian Mbappe, on loan from Monaco. The two formed a destructive attack with Edinson Cavani and have been ripping oppositions apart. They have quality not just in attack, but in midfield and defense as well. Paris, too, have been undefeated this season and are currently 1st in Ligue 1 with 4 point lead over 2nd placed Monaco. PSG has arguably been the best side in UEFA Champions League so far, conceding 0 goals and scoring 17, most till now. With this kind of destructive form, PSG seem to be hot contenders for dethroning Real Madrid and winning UEFA Champions League this time. PSG currently top their group with 3 point lead over Bayern Munich
Yes, their form has been rocky this season, yes their best player Cristiano Ronaldo is yet to regain his best form, but one does not rule out the Spanish Giants and the defending champions of UEFA Champions League. Real Madrid have won 3 of the last 4 UEFA Champions Leagues. One can argue that they haven’t been playing much impressive as of lately, but the Los Blancos have the quality to topple sides and are in line to win their 3rd consecutive UEFA Champions League. Real Madrid are currently 3rd in La Liga and 2nd in their group in UEFA Champions League.
