JOHANNESBURG: A Pakistan team with no Sarfraz Ahmed struck early with the ball after winning the toss against South Africa in the fourth one-day international in Johannesburg on Sunday.

A surprisingly helpful pitch and a committed bowling effort helped Pakistan bowl South Africa out for 164 in the fourth one-day international at the Wanderers.

Teen speedster Shaheen Shah Afridi removed Quinton de Kock for 0 and Hendricks for 2, leaving the hosts two down for 18 in the Pink ODI.

Captain Faf du Plessis and Hashim Amla steadied South Africa with a 100+ stand, but Pakistan were given another breakthrough by Shadab Khan who removed du Plessis (57).

Imad Wasim bowled Amla (59) soon afterwards to put Pakistan back into the game.

Veteran all-rounder Shoaib Malik is captaining Pakistan after Sarfraz was given a four-match suspension by the ICC over racist remarks against South Africa’s Andile Phehlukwayo in the second ODI. Sarfraz has been replaced by Mohammad Rizwan.

“We wanted him, but the incident … we all know what has happened. I don’t want to comment about it. But they’ve given me this opportunity, and I want to do my best,” stand-in captain Malik said at the toss.

Despite putting up an imposing total of 317 in the rain-hit third ODI in Centurion, Pakistan could not stop South Africa from winning the match by 13 runs and taking a 2-1 lead in the series.
