Pakistan will be looking to win the match against West Indies to create history. Pakistan have not won a single test series on Caribbean soil. This will be the best chance for Pakistan to win the test series for the first time and to be the first Asian team to win at Barbados.
At the stumps day 4 West Indies managed to get the lead of 183 runs. Earlier on day 4 Shai Hope played a commendable knock of 90 runs to help his country to a get a respectable lead. Just when West Indies were looking to go past the lead of 250 Yasir spun his web against an unpredictable WI line up to stall them at 264 for 9 at stumps.
Before the start of 4th day, West Indian captain Jason Holder was really confident to give Pakistan a tough target of more than 175. He said,
” The way pitch is playing and if it deteriorates a little bit more, probably anything in excess of 175 would be good for us and give ourselves a chance and time to bowl Pakistan out”.
Looking at the history of the pitch, it has always provide assistance to fast bowlers, but in last few years it has given help to spinners as well. Previously WI have played 51 test matches here at Barbados, won 17, lost 11 and 17 matches were drawn.
The record of Asian teams at Barbados is really poor. India have played 9 tests ,lost 7 and 2 were drawn whereas Pakistan has played 6 matches lost 3 and 3 of them were drawn. While SL and Ban are yet to play on this ground. Highest successful chase at this ground is 311/9 by WI vs Aus back in 1998-99.
If we look at the batting average of Pakistani Batsmen in the 4th innings, Younis Khan and Misbah ul Haq will lead from the front the current playing xi, Younis Khan averages 52.14 while Misbah ul Haq averages 50.73 in 4th Innings, boosting chances for Pakistan. Pakistan successfully chased 8 targets over 200 in the 4th Innings.
Conclusively, Pakistan have to play really smart cricket to ensure a famous victory. Obviously Pakistan will desperately try to win this test series to give Misbah and Younis a fitting farewell.
