Recently Pakistan were having a lot of misconceptions in their opening pair who were not succeeding to give Pakistan a quick start after the departure of Sharjeel. But there was someone hiding in the closet to fill that void, and he had been performing consistently in the domestic arena for quite a while now, Fakhar Zaman.
On 7th June against South Africa, Fakhar Zaman got Pakistan off to a flying start against South Africa when Pakistan were set to chase a target of 219 in 50 overs.
Fakhar Zaman played a fearless cameo of 31 runs in 24 balls that consisted of 6 boundaries. Fakhar Zaman is looking to repeat the same approach and innings against Sri Lanka.
“I will try to spend maximum time on the wicket to give the team a good start so that our experienced middle order can take it further to a big total on the scoreboard. I will try to score in three figures.” expressed Fakhar.
Fakhar Zaman tonked every lose delivery he received against South Africa and played them on merit. Later Fakhar said: “I will play every ball on merit and will take maximum advantage if I receive any loose delivery.”
Most of the times Pakistani players who have performed well in the domestic circuit fail to impress in the International cricket arena, but Fakhar changed that motto. “I played like I used to play in domestic matches, I had decided that I shouldn’t go on the back foot and let SA bowlers put any pressure on us.” said Fakhar.
Although Fakhar played a quick cameo of 31, he surely would have been looking to convert that score into a big one. Here’s his say at that: “I was trying to play a big inning but unfortunately I couldn’t, I should have converted my 30 into big score but I regret that I couldn’t do so.”
Pakistan are to face off against Sri Lanka on Monday 12th June 2017 in a decisive match. Fakhar and the Pakistan team management will be looking to a convincing performance by the team and Fakhar.
