The wicket-keeping spot has always been a topic of debate for Indian Cricket Mass as a few desired to see MS Dhoni while a few prefer KL Rahul or Rishabh Pant.

As the topic of Dhoni’s retirement was frenzied as a few, considering his age, wanted him to wear retirement boot to give a chance to youngsters. Whereas, the sensible mass saw age as just a number and believed the veteran will retire whenever he will feel like as he still has got a lot to serve India. Finally, the chapter has been closed forever.

The relevant bodies talked about dominating Rahul and Pant for the spot and wished Dhoni to give the young duo a chance. As their wish has now been true, the youngsters might have an open vacancy to look for. It will be up to the Board of Control of Cricket in India (BCCI) to choose one of the two of their best interests.

Opined, Rahul will be continuing as a back-up keeper for Men in Blue in case if the real keeper gets injured or missing due to some reasons. However, a few see Rahul as a full-time keeper as well.

“People think that Rahul may become our main keeper in the future. But I feel that Rahul should be used as a backup wicketkeeper, if the main keeper is injured or he is not with the team then Rahul should be there because if you rely on him as the main keeper then chances of injuries will grow as the workload will increase on him,” Mohammad Kaif had said.

Considerably, the world will never witness a wicket-keeping middle-over batsman like Dhoni but it would be the time to see some new lads occupying the post. However, international cricket in India is almost diminished amidst the COVID-19 as the back to back tours and series have been called off.

Probably, one of the two will be seen in the action once BCCI confirms any of their matches. As expected, Australia vs India series in winter is going to commence international cricket in India after IPL and a long gap without the game since February-March. Notably, both of them have gained a bit of experience in the slot.
