Ravichandran Ashwin’s ‘mankading’ of Jos Buttler during Kings XI Punjab’s match against Rajasthan Royals created a lot of furore on social media and even among the cricket fraternity.
However, the Kings XI skipper himself was unperturbed by the criticism around his decision to run out non-striker Buttler for leaving the crease before the delivery was bowled.
The incident has definitely made other batsmen wary of Ashwin’s ability to pull off another such run-out if they leave the crease before the off-spinner releases the ball.
The Kings XI Punjab skipper has been hogging the limelight ever since Mankading Jos Buttler in the first week of the ongoing season. The India ace had faced widespread criticism for the dismissal that is very much legal but is widely considered against the spirit of the game.
Against Delhi Capitals on Saturday, the 32-year-old once again stopped in his bowling action to check whether opener Shikhar Dhawan was leaving the crease earlier to gain a few yards and the Delhi batsman responded by teasing the bowler with a few moves of his own.
But no one was prepared for what happened next. As Ashwin bowled the delivery to Shreyas Iyer, Dhawan mocked the KXIP skipper by suggesting that he was going out of the crease but his bat was inside all along.
Dhawan . then pretended to take off even when the bowler was in his delivery strides by breaking into a jig that resembled more like spot running and even attracted applause from the commentators.

Earlier, Dale Steyn and SRH batsmen David Warner also tried to outfox the Punjab skipper.
Royal Challengers Bangalore star Dale Steyn has taken a sly dig at Ravichandran Ashwin, trolling the off-spinner on Twitter. Not very surprisingly, Mankad was the focus point in Steyn’s cheeky swipe at Ashwin.
Prasanna, South Africa’s team performance analyst and Kings XI Punjab’s high-performance manager, took to Twitter to compile a bowling lineup of his own and asked his followers about their views.
“How good will it be to have jofra archer , Jasprit Bumrah , Kagiso Rabada , Imran Tahir and R Ashwin as your bowling attack in an ipl team?,” wrote Prasanna.

Dale Steyn sensed the opportunity to have a laugh at Ashwin’s expense and he did not waste the chance. The Proteas star hilariously replied:
“Bumrah- Bowled, Rabada- Caught, Tahir- Lbw ,Ashwin- Mankad. All bases covered there Pdog 🤣”
