PSL 2018

Islamabad United Player Draft for HBL PSL 3

In first article we told you about Lahore Qalandars (Player Draft for HBL PSL3 – Lahore Qalandars). Now we will look at Islamabad United, A team which won the first edition of the PSL, but had a second year which they would like to put behind them and in most cases try to forget. A team which was plagued with a spot fixing scandal, various injuries to key players and the banning of Andre Russell. A start no team or captain wants.

Yet despite this, Islamabad put in some good performances and provided two young talents to Pakistan cricket: Shadab Khan and Rumman Raees. Shadab Khan, the 18 year old legspinner who rocked the PSL, the West Indies and the Champions Trophy. Who can forget his googly, or his reviews or his celebrations. Simply outstanding. Then there is Rumman Raees, the fast bowler with a super cool celebration and a dazzling smile. Both are great assets to team Pakistan and Islamabad United.

After their 9 retentions, Islamabad seem to have a strong set of bowlers and bowling all rounders, with Misbah Ul Haq their standout middle order batsmen. Islamabad United will ideally need a handful of batsmen from the draft, both local and overseas. Other than this they will be probably looking for an overseas fast bowler, as a possible backup to their first choice bowlers.

Islamabad United has to replace the now banned Sharjeel Khan. One batsmen who has shocked the world recently with his tremendous hitting ability is Evin Lewis who can fill this void. His knock of 176* against England at the Oval earlier this year highlights what an extreme force he is. His aggressive batting at the top of the order is exactly what ISLU is looking for.

Another batsmen that will fit in nicely for Islamabad United is Colin Munro. A player who has hit 2 T20I 100’s this year, including one against India last week. His power hitting ability makes him feared globally on the T20 circuit and he can slot in nicely in Islamabad’s middle order.

ISLU also need a local opener and the obvious choice is Ahmed Shehzad, bearing in mind he’s performed well in both editions of the PSL so far. However, if he is taken by another team the other options are: Sahibzada Farhan, Nauman Anwar, Mukhtar Ahmed and Zeeshan Malik.

If Evin Lewis and Colin Munro are taken the other options are Darren Bravo, Eoin Morgan, Alex Hales and James Vince. These set of players can fill the gaps in Islamabad’s top and middle order.

A good overseas fast bowler will be hard to recruit, especially as all teams will be eyeing Mitchell Johnson, Mitchell McClenaghan and Mustafizur Rehman. Islamabad therefore may have to go for the likes of John Hastings or Albie Morkel.

Islamabad United Targets:

Batsmen- Evin Lewis, Colin Munro, Darren Bravo, Eoin Morgan, Alex Hales, James Vince, Ahmed Shehzad etc

Bowlers- John Hastings, Albie Morkel
