The fourth season of the Pakistan Super League will kick off with defending champions Islamabad United locking horns with Lahore Qalandars on February 14.
The 2019 Pakistan Super League will provide a series of firsts for supporters. In the fourth season of the Twenty20 league, which starts in Dubai in February, AB de Villiers will be making his tournament debut.
Abu Dhabi will host PSL matches for the first time – four in two days – while supporters based back in Pakistan will now get to see regular league season games.
Where finals matches have been played in Lahore and Karachi in the past two seasons, now the franchises representing those two cities will get to play in front of home faithful.
The 4th edition of the PSL-2019 will kick off in Dubai on February 15 for the last time.
“The fifth edition of the Pakistan Super League wil entirely be held in Pakistan with no matches in the UAE”, said Fawad Chaudhry, Minister of Information.
The franchise Twenty20 cricket league was launched by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) in 2015. But the tournament was held in the UAE for the last four years as intenrational cricket players refused to go to Pakistan for security reason.
“We are taking PSL back to Pakistan in 2020 completely,” revealed Chaudhry while speaking at an event in Dubai on Sunday.
He said PSL-2019 is the last edition of the major Pakistan Twenty20 cricket tournament being held in Dubai this year.
“I urge all Pakistanis living in the UAE to go to the stadium to watch matches as this will be last time the tournament is being held here,” he said.
The call came due to the lacklustre response from the community last year as stadium remained empty in Dubai during the last PSL matches.
“This is your country’s event, make it successful,” he said,
Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Chaudhry Fawad Hussain has expressed the hope that the upcoming edition of PSL would be the last to be played in United Arab Emirates as “we want to shift the cricket gala event to Pakistan.”
Addressing the opening ceremony of “Maidan Saja Hai, Pakistan ki Shaan Barhana Hai”, campaign in connection with upcoming PSL-4, he said the PSL would see the glimpses of the National Stadium Karachi and the Gaddafi Stadium Lahore.
Karachi Kings has launched a campaign ‘Maidan Sajana Hai’ to fill the stadium across the UAE giving incentives to residents to watch matches in the stadium.
The fourth edition of the highly anticipated league will kick-off from February 14.
The grand opening ceremony of the 2019 Pakistan Super League will also held on February 14, 2019 in Dubai, with performances from some of the biggest names in the global and Pakistani entertainment industry.
Keeping up the tradition of the last three seasons, the HBL Pakistan Super League is set for another grand opening ceremony.
The Dubai International Stadium would play host to a star-studded evening on 14 February with internationally renowned pop star Pitbull leading the performers’ line-up.
The Florida based singer has become a household name around the world with a number of super hit songs in recent years.
Marcia Barrett of the legendary old-school Pop outfit Boney M will also grace the opening ceremony that will start at 8:00 pm UAE time.
Leading Pakistan Sufi-rock band Junoon is another attraction of what promises to be a memorable evening in Dubai. The band that has made a comeback to mainstream music after a long absence is set to bring incredible energy to the evening in the true HBL PSL spirit.
The opening ceremony would be followed by the opening match of the HBL PSL 2019 between defending champions Islamabad United and Lahore Qalandars.
