No Akmal In Pakistan Squad For The First Time In 10 Years In ICC Events

Akmal’s and the Pakistan Cricket Team in ICC tournaments have had really strong ties since 2007. This is the first time in the last 10 years of Pakistan Cricket where we will see PCT play an ICC tournament without a single player from the Akmal brothers in the squad.

Mickey Arthur the head coach of Pakistan is breaking some stereotypes by not having an Akmal in the squad. This is also Mickey Arthur’s first ICC tournament coaching the Pakistan Team.

The tally of Akmal’s in ICC events:

ICC Cricket World Cup 2007: Kamran Akmal

ICC T20I World Cup 2007: Kamran Akmal

ICC T20I World Cup 2009: Kamran Akmal

ICC Champions Trophy 2009: Kamran Akmal, Umar Akmal

ICC T20I World Cup 2010: Kamran Akmal, Umar Akmal

ICC Cricket World Cup 2011: Kamran Akmal, Umar Akmal

ICC T20I World Cup 2012: Kamran Akmal, Umar Akmal

ICC Champions Trophy 2013: Kamran Akmal

ICC T20I World Cup 2014: Kamran Akmal, Umar Akmal

ICC Cricket World Cup 2015: Umar Akmal

ICC T20I World Cup 2016: Umar Akmal

ICC Champions Trophy 2017: NO AKMAL

Umar Akmal was also announced to be a part of Pakistan Squad for Champions Trophy 2017, also managed to travel with the team to England for the tournament, but Umar Akmal failed to pass the fitness test and had some disciplinary issues with the team management which led to him being kicked from the 15. Umar Akmal was replaced by Haris Sohail.

Pakistan only managed to win one ICC tournament out of 11 during the era of Akmal’s, that was the 2009 World T20. This is Pakistan’s 12th ICC tournament in the last 10 years and the first without an Akmal. Can Pakistan make history by winning the Champions Trophy without an Akmal?
