Pakistan Domestic Cricket going in the Right Direction

After a successful 2nd Edition of Pakistan Super League, PCB organised the 2nd Edition of Pakistan Cup which consisted of 11 50 over Matches in Rawalpindi. This year PCB named five young captains in order to groom them, these 5 captains included, Fakhar Zaman, Imad Wasim, Mohammad Rizwan, Umar Akmal and Anwar Ali. While experienced players like Shoaib Malik, Mohammad Hafeez, Fawad Alam, Kamran Akmal played this tournament under these young captains.

Pakistan National Test Players were not part of this tournament which gave a chance to youngsters to express their talent in the Pakistan Cup; Pakistan Cup is televised and highly followed by cricket fans in Pakistan.

Lets look at some of the youngsters who performed really well and who were not part of Pakistan Super League or Pakistan National Team.

Sahibzada Farhan is a 21 year old youngsters from Charsadda who played only 12 domestic matches before Pakistan Cup, he scored 219 runs in 4 matches at a brilliant average of 54.75 with an outstanding strike rate of 96.90 including four fifties against some quality and experienced bowlers of Pakistan Domestic Circuit.

Sami Aslam who was dropped from the test side recently showed his talent in Pakistan Cup by scoring 169 runs of just 126 balls against the strong Balochistan Team. Sami scored 224 runs at an average of 54 with a strike rate of 123.07

Umar Amin is another talent who couldn’t perform consistently in International Cricket but performed really well in this Pakistan Cup, He played for Punjab and scored 185 runs in 3 matches with an average of 92.50 and a strike rate of 103.35 including a century.

Amir Yamin the 26 year old who performed brilliantly in Pakistan Cup failed to impress selectors for Champions Trophy, He scored 116 runs in 3 innings with an average of 116 and a strike rate of 146.83 and took 9 wickets in 4 innings including a five wicket haul. Yamin is also the leading wicket taker of Pakistan Cup 2017.

Pakistan Domestic always identifies talented bowlers but fails to generate quality batsmen and finishers like Abdul Razzaq. Pakistan Cricket is finally going in right direction, where PSL provides Pakistan with Asghar, Nawaz, Hassan Ali, Shadab Khan and Fakhar Zaman. Pakistan First Class structure also need to be taken care of and matches should televised and players should be given proper facilities in order to improve their standard of cricket.
