Pakistan face heavy defeat in U-23 emergings Asia cup final

The final of ACC emerging teams cup was played on 3rd April, 2017 at Chittagong Stadium between Pakistan under-23 and Sri Lanka under-23. Both teams were promising, Both teams had won 2 matches out of 4 matches in the group stage.

Pakistan under-23 had to go on field without their main batsman, Imam-ul-Haq who got injured before the semi-finals. Imam-ul-Haq performed very well for the green shirts. He scored 238 runs in 3 matches with an average of 119.

Pakistan under-23 won the toss and elected to bat first. Pakistan got off to a rough start after losing their first wicket of Imran Butt at 12 runs. Hussain Talat also got dismissed in the very next over. Haris Sohail couldn’t settle either and got out for 3 runs. Pakistan’s middle-order tried to settle things down but they couldn’t stay for long on the crease. Hammad Azam scored 25 off 61 balls while Usama Mir scored 26 off 43 balls. Pakistan was all-out in the 43rd over for 133 runs. Shehan Jaysuria took 3 wickets while Hasaranga and Karunatne took 2, 2 wickets each.

Sri Lanka started their innings. Avishka Fernando got dismissed for 17 runs in the 5th over. Sri Lanka suffered the second loss after the dismissal of Shehan Jaysuria in the 9th over. Samarawickrana played a sensible knock of 45 runs off 42 balls, he was dismissed by Usama Mir. Vithanage and Wanidu stood firm on the crease and led Sri Lanka to victory in the final. Sri Lanka won by 5 wickets.

Sri Lanka won the match and won ACC emerging teams cup 2017. KIC Asalanka was announced as the Player of The Tournament after his brilliant performance with the bat. Asalanka scored 338 runs with an average of 84.50 through out the tournament, he was also the top scorer. Usama Mir from Pakistan was the leading wicket taker as he took 13 wickets in 5 matches with an average of 10.23 including a cracking spell of 7 wickets for 14 runs.
