After almost two years Pakistan Hockey Team played an international test series. Last time Pakistan hockey team played a test series in May 2015 against South Korea (four matches test series). After this gap, at last PHF decided to send national team for the tour of New Zealand and Australia to play bilateral test series in both countries.
Captaincy was handed over to Abdul Haseem Khan and new faces from U21 team were added. The team was a perfect combination of fresh blood and experienced players.
SUMMARY OF NEW ZEALAND TOUR
Pakistan team started its tour of New Zealand on a sad note after suffering 2-3 defeat against the hosts in the first test which was played at Wellington. Dilber and Aleem Bilal (PC) were the scorers for Pakistan. The second test was drawn by 2-2. New Zealand pushed out to a two-goal lead but Pakistan responded strongly through a penalty corner flick from Abu Bakar Mahmood and a field goal from Abdul Haseem Khan to equalize the match. Third test was also played at the same venue in which Pakistan defeated New Zealand by 4-2 due to the Hat-trick of young Abu Bakar Mahmood to level the series 1-1. One goal was scored by Skipper Haseem Khan. Captain Abdul Haseem Khan’s brace helped Pakistan to beat New Zealand 2-1 in the fourth hockey test played at Carterton Wairarapa. Pakistan’s team captain, Haseem Khan scored both goals. While last match scoreline was 1-1. Haeem Khan again scored for Pakistan. Pakistan hockey team gave a perfect gift to the nation on Pakistan Day by winning the series 2-1.
