The PCB Chairman recently announced the 32nd Test Captain for Pakistan as the previous leader Misbah Ul Haq has bid adieu to his Test Career and retired after the West Indies Tour so a new Skipper was required to lead the test side and they have chosen the aggressive Sarfaraz Ahmed which was on the cards as he is already the Captain in the shorter formats of the game.
Sarfaraz has already shown the world how good he is as a leader in T20I’s and ODI’s, He just fought all the odds and brought the Champions Trophy Home against top teams which was his Second ICC Tournament win as a captain first being the under 19 World Cup which he lifted back in 2006, coming to T20I’s Sarfaraz is the second Captain to win 6 consecutive T20I matches and also the second to win first 6 matches as Captain. These records made the job of the board easier as it might have compelled them to appoint him as Test Leader aswell.
Although it will not be easy for Sarfaraz to straight away get positive results knowing that it is a tough task to be a captain in tests which is 5 days long and the captaincy level is also tested in this format and not to forget the heavy criticism a Pakistani Captain Receives after losing 1 or 2 series against big teams which has been faced by previous leaders aswell. Sarfaraz is not new to this, he was also doubted when he was made the ODI skipper but he replied back by lifting the Champions Trophy 2017 so it will not be very difficult for Sarfaraz Ahmed mentally to head into his first Test match as Captain soon.
It is indeed a huge achievement to be the leader of your nation in all three formats of the game. Sarfaraz’s ability to lead in the shorter formats has been tested and now it is time for the Lad to take the test team to higher heights, and we never know Sarfaraz Ahmed might break the record of Captain Misbah Ul Haq with Most Test wins for Pakistan and Also grab the test mace as he is very much capable of doing it considering past experience and his aggressive captaincy along with passion towards Cricket.
