PSL 2017

Flashbacks of Pakistan Super League 2017

PAKISTAN SUPER LEAGUE – The most loved tournament of Pakistani cricket fans. Fans waited for more than 350 days for the 2nd edition of this exciting tournament. And then there came 9th of February 2017- the starting of PSL, the most beautiful opening ceremony the world had ever witnessed.

That ceremony definitely gave some goose bumps to every cricket lover. Then the start of PSL as well as war between cities; bigger war than Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Those close matches, thriller after thriller after thriller.

Muhammad Sami defended 5 runs; Nawaz defended 7 in his last over and took his team to the final; Elliot last over SIX and bat drop; Low scoring thriller- LQ almost defended 59- courtesy Bazz and Yasir Shah; Pollard last two balls SIXES then the legendary PUSH UPS; Afridi’s last over SIX and SIGNATURE STEP.

I can’t think of any tournaments that can give these many thrillers; Unbelievable. Every Pakistani had at least one mini heart attack during these 24 days. The ultimate thriller was LQ vs KK because that was do or die situation for KK.

KK won the toss and elected to ball first. LQ playing first managed to score 155. KK took on the charge and in 11 overs, they were 80/1 and the situation was completely in their hands as KK had many hard hitters in their team.

And suddenly Sanga departed, Baber headed back, Bopara gone and eventually KK were 89/4 in 13.4 overs with RRR 10.62.

Much responsibility was on the shoulders of Shoaib Malik; he got run out on 6 while total was 103 in 15.2 overs, RRR climbed up to 11 and half. Then the Caribbean man (Kieron Pollard) came.

RRR further climbed up to 14. At that time LQ was confident and the hopes of KK were alive as well. Heartbeat of every one was too fast.

In last two overs 28 was needed. Sohail Tanvir bowled the 19th over. First two balls conceded just 2 runs and then Pollard showed his power and completed that over scoring 14 runs.

The last over was to bowl by young Amir Yamin. He gave just 4 runs on 3 balls, now the equation was 10 of 3. Amir Yamin to bowl, Monster Pollard on strike, Yorker outside the off and beat. No run on fourth ball. 10 needed of 2. All nails were gone. Do or Die situation for KK.

Second last ball of the match; Pollard hits a SIX over long off. 4 needed of the last ball. Prayers, excitement, emotions, mini heart attacks and tensed franchise owners (Salman Iqbal, Fawad Rana). Then the Windies boy hit another six on last ball and kept the KK alive in the tournament.

Pollard celebrated this win by amazing push ups. Absolutely the great match to watch. Winning this match lead KK to qualify for the play offs.
