PSL 2020

Multan Sultans named replacements of Mahmudullah and James Vince

Pakistan super league’s matches are set to be resumed from where they were left off due to COVID-19. Multan Sultans, being the table toppers, played amazingly throughout the tournament but to everyone’s surprise they are suffering some serious blows now.

The Bangladeshi all-rounder Mahmdullah, who was a member of Multan Sultans, tested positive for COVID-19 on Sunday and will not be able to participate in the rest of PSL.

This was already a lot to take for the Sultans but recently the news came out that top-order batsman James Vince, who plays for English cricket team, has also been tested positively meaning he will not be able to render his service to the league.

Joe Denly and Brendan Taylor will be replacing Mahmudullah and James Vince in the Multan Sultans squad for the HBL Pakistan Super League 2020 playoffs.

Brendan Taylor – a 34 years old Zimbabwean player and former captain will be playing in place of Mahmdullah. In T20Is, he has played 42 matches in which he has scored 901 with an average of 25.02 and strike rate of 120.13.

On the other hand, Joe Denly – English right handed batsmen – will be serving as a replacement for James Vince. Denly has played 13 matches in total in which he was able to score 102 runs altogether. His averages 12.50 and his strike rate is 105.93.

While at other side Multan Sultans has provided update on players’ arrival. Veteran all-rounder Shahid Afridi has joined the Multan Sultans’ squad today in Karachi.

Meanwhile, South Africa’s Rilee Rossouw and England duo of Ravi Bopara and Adam Lyth have already joined the squad and are undergoing their isolation period.

Multan Sultans will face Karachi Kings on November 14 in 1st Qualifier.

Leg-spinner Imran Tahir and head coach Andy Flower have reached Pakistan. As for the local players, captain Shan Masood and pacers Sohail Tanvir, Mohammad Irfan and Ali Shafique have also joined the squad and are presently undergoing their isolation period.

All the players who presently with their domestic teams in the ongoing Quaid-e-Azam (QeA) Trophy are expected to join the squad later tonight after fulfilling all necessary protocols. Players who are currently participating in the Pakistan versus Zimbabwe series will join the squad on November 11.

Multan Sultans came out as the underdogs in this season of PSL and they were able to stun everyone with their performance. The real question is that will they be able to carry their form in playoffs too with two new replacements? A question that will be answered on the 14th of November.
