Lahore Qalanders is one of the most famous franchise of HBL Pakistan Super League. It has a huge fan base. The franchise is famous for picking big names in their squad and also for their Player Development Program. This is the only franchise which is involved in many other activities during the rest of year. Qalanders have finished their last four seasons at last position and also have started PSL 5 with three back to back losses.
There are many reasons behind the failure of this franchise among which some are listed below:
1) COACHING STAFF:
In every season,we see Qalanders having big names in their squad but we haven’t seen any big name in their coaching staff. We have seen teams having Mentor like Sir Viv Richards, Hashim Amla, Wasim Akram and many others but Qalanders have just stick to Aqib Javed and haven’t give any importance to keep any legendary player in their coaching staff.
2) POOR DECISIONS BY TEAM MANAGEMENT:
Decisions by their team management are very poor. They have failed to find out best combination for their playing XI. Appointing Sohail Akhtar as the captain this season is one of the worst decision. He hasn’t proved his best as a captain yet and only scored one half century in the recently concluded National T20 Cup. How can their management ignore a player like Hafeez who has captained Pakistan team and he’s also a cool minded person.
3) SELECTION OF SQUAD:
We have seen Lahore Qalandars squad so strong in the past seasons but this time they are having only few big names which include Chris Lynn, M Hafeez, Shaheen Afridi, Haris Rauf and Fakhar Zaman who’s already out of form. They have retained David Wiese in Diamond category just because he hit a six to win a game for them in last season against Multan Sultans. Their other foreigners include Ben Dunk, Seekuge Prasanna, Lendl Simmons (replaced by Dane Vilas) and Samit Patel. There half of the local players are from their Player Development Programme. They haven’t give any importance to select players from Pakistan’s domestic circuit and no player from Pakistan U 19 is in their squad. More importance is given by them to their Players Development Programme players who will take some time to prepare themselves for the level of PSL.
