PSL: The Season of Six

As PSL 2018, Third season of Pakistan Super league is only couple of weeks away, teams are gearing up for the competition with full fervour and ardent desire. Done with all the promotions and branding, now it is the real time for every franchise to gel up as a team and crown themselves with the glory of the precious PSL trophy. This season of PSL is special in itself from previous years for more than one reason. Popularity of First two seasons of PSL was simply implausible. Maximum games in the PSL 2017 were closely fought, that only proved icing on cake to the popularity of PSL. Now it is time for PSL to firm that popularity with more authority and quality cricket that fans will relish.

This PSL will be very special thing for more than one motive. Intriguing battles on-field will only multiply its supremacy as one of the best leagues going around the world along with the likes of BBL and IPL in such small span of time. While PSL has successfully survived and thrived in its infancy stage. Now it’s time to show the development and attract the global cricketing market with its breath-taking and astonishing cricketing drama. PSL season 1 was special in its own gaze as it broke down the long yearning duck of Pakistan hosting its own cricketing league.

Pakistan Super League Season 2 added more stars to its popularity with action pack cricket and bringing much awaited quality cricket back to its home audience, as Gaddafi stadium of Lahore hosted the PSL final. Now the expectations with PSL Season 3 are immense. As we all know that PSL has given already many stars to Pakistan in matter of only two years. Likes of Hassan Ali, Shadab Khan, Rumman Raees, Fakhar Zaman all created powerful stir in the international cricket, only got recognition with the help of PSL. Pakistan will hope that this year’s PSL will also give them some more young players for International cricket.

This PSL is somewhat special as it will be the introductory year for the sixth team in the league. The new team that will play in this year’s PSL is Multan Sultans mentored by none other than legendary Wasim Akram who was mentor of Islamabad United in previous years. Addition of sixth team means more chance for young blood to perform on big stage alongside legends of the trade. Also Pakistan will host more games in this season of PSL with Karachi and Lahore hosting the finals and eliminators respectively. This will only invigorate Pakistan to bring back some quality international cricketing sides to Pakistan. From Viewership point, this year’s PSL will catch many more eye balls compare to previous years as it is first time PSL will be telecasted in the world’s biggest cricketing market: India. So, it is definitely win-win situation for Pakistan in this regard and hopefully world’s most enthusiastic cricketing fans will witness enthralling action pack cricket.

Like previous two years, This season of PSL has its own set of challenges and opportunities. The main challenge will be to fix the negative glitches of PSL 2 that affected somewhat credibility of the league. In order to maintain the authenticity of PSL 3, Pakistan Cricket broad in association with ICC’s anti corruption unit should devise some protocols and strategy to save this league from the witchcraft of corruption.

Keeping aside all the negative cricketing horoscopes, this year’s PSL will provide more opportunity to the cricketing fans all over the world to witness some entertaining, enthralling and nail biting cricket . Hopefully it will live up to it’s expectations and bring joy on the cricket starving faces of Pakistani fans.
