Everyone was waiting for this much anticipated encounter to begin. Zalmi skipper Darren Sammy won the toss and opted to bowl. Peshawar Zalmi were very sluggish in the field early on and leaked runs which put them under pressure. Quetta’s openers Ahmad Shehzad and Luke Wright got them off to a blitz but it was to be over as Hassan Ali cleaned Wright up. Ahmed Shehzad continued his brisk hitting and Kevin Pietersen joined in with a quick fire 40 of 22 which included 3 big sixes. Shahzad gradually fell on 71 to Sammy. Rilee Rossouw and Sarfraz Ahmed struggled to find the boundary in the middle overs but Anwar Ali’s late cameo got the Gladiators to 200/7 in the alotted 20 overs.
Zalmi started awfully losing 2 wickets for just 3 runs. They, then had to recover and build a strong partnership.Mohammad Hafeez and Dawid Malan succeeded to do so and put Zalmi ahead of the game. Hafeez fell soon for 77 and Malan followed up by falling for 56 to Tymal Mills. In came Shahid Afridi, Shahid Afridi continued from where he left off versus the Gladiators.Afridi made 34 key runs off just 13 balls with 4 big hits. Zalmi now needed 7 from the last over. Soon they needed 2 from 3 with Jordan on strike. Jordan edged one behind to Sarfraz who took a sharp catch Wahab Riaz fell immediately putting Hasan Ali to get 2 from 1.Hasan could not dig it out and Nawaz put up a heroic perforamance by defending 7 from the last over. Quetta won an absolute thriller!
