The Pakistan Super League (PSL) has been successful in the past two years. The first season of the league kicked off on 4 February 2016, since then the league has been popular among the cricket world. Let’s have a look at what each Franchise has done to Pakistan Cricket.
Islamabad United is owned by Ali Naqvi and Amna Naqvi of Leonine Global Sports. Leonine Global Sports are investors from UAE. The team is captained by Pakistan’s most successful Test Captain, Misbah-ul-Haq.
The franchise always look up to world class players for coaching staff. They train their players in a disciplinary manner and work hard on their fitness. The franchise has given Pakistan future superstars like Rumman Raees and Shadab Khan. The franchise won the first ever season of the PSL.

“I believe that you need to give confidence and show trust on your players and let them play their game instead of bowing down to the pressure of criticism.”
Peshawar Zalmi is owned by Javed Afridi of Haier Pakistan. Captained by Darren Sammy who is the two time T20 world cup winner. The team was previously captained by Shahid Afridi.
The franchise is involved in giving sports education to children. For the betterment of cricketers of Pakistan, Zalmi owner, Javed Afridi has bought a team in the South Africa’s T20 league, Global T20 league, Benomi Zalmi.
The franchise started a campaign to construct over 100 pitches all over the KPK later this year. The Peshawar Zalmi are current trophy holder of the PSL. Pakistan’s newest bowling sensation, Hassan Ali plays for this franchise.
Team owner Javed Afridi on PSL:
“If I am being honest, I am more interested in what improvements we can do in the future editions of this tournament. We must not delve on the cosmetic aspects of such a tournament.”
The Lahore Qalandars is owned by Fawad Rana of Qatar Lubricants Company ltd. The Qalandars have been working really hard for cricket in Pakistan since the first season. The captain of the team is Brendon McCullum, previously captained by Azhar Ali.
They have started a player’s development program. Every year, they organize trials all over the Punjab province. This year, they also organized trials in the Kashmir region. Thousands of young players participate in the trials to showcase their talent.
For the Pakistani players, Qalandars owner announced to buy a team in Global T20 League, Durban Qalandars. They also organized a series with the BBL franchises.

Quetta Gladiators is owned by renowned sports promoter, Nadeem Omar, Omar Associates. The team is captained by Sarfaraz Ahmed who is the captain of all formats of Pakistan. If we talk about people who have relentlessly worked for Pakistan cricket, Nadeem Omar’s name will come to our minds first.
Omar Associates have been actively working for cricket for the past three decades. They have teams participating in mostly every domestic tournament. In the past two seasons of PSL, the Gladiators have been the runners-up.
Nadeem Omar explained the brand value of PSL during the second season:
“The brand value of PSL and its franchises have increased compared to first season and it will grow further. I would request both the public and private sector to support it as much as they can because this is about future of Pakistan cricket.”
Karachi Kings is owned by the popular media group ARY, its CEO is Salman Iqbal. The franchise is led by the great Kumar Sangakkara, in the last season Shoaib Malik was the captain of the franchise.
The Karachi Kings organize trials in the National Cricket Stadium, Karachi every year. Huge amount of youngsters participate in the trials and get picked up by any franchise of the PSL.
The Karachi Kings have several domestic cricket events running the entire year. In which, all the players are from the domestic circuit. By these events, extremely talented cricketers have been founded.

Someone decided to organize trials. Someone took the decision to train their players in the best way while has been working for the betterment of cricket in the country for years. Someone took the responsibility of making quality pitches in its region.
The PSL Franchises have been playing its part in cricket in the country. Their role has been dominant and it will not be wrong to say that they are equally rightful in the Pakistan Cricket Team’s recent success all over the globe.
