Zalmi’s Sammy swiped down of captaincy

Peshawar Zalmi’s captain, Darren Sammy has announced to step down from the captaincy of Peshawar Zalmi earlier today in a press conference.

He has been appointed as the new Head Coach of the team for the next two years, and Wahab Riaz as the new captain of Peshawar Zalmi. Moreover, Sammy will be available as a player this season.

“As a player, it is always difficult to make the transition,” said the former Zalmi skipper.

“We have had our successes, but the truth is in the last two years, I have played not fully fit. This year, I must admit I feel the best and ready to go, but since 2016 all I have asked from my players is to do what is necessary and what is best for the team

“As a leader, I think I have demonstrated that. This season, my preparation and my form have not been exactly what I wanted it to be able to perform for the team in the best way possible.” He further added.

Sammy has been an integral part of the team since the first season of the Pakistan Super League (PSL), and under his captaincy, Zalmi also won the PSL title in 2017.

Mohammad Akram has been promoted to the role of Director Cricket as well as the Bowling Coach of the team.
