Certainly, it was a dream final for the fans of tennis. Roger Federer defeated Rafael Nadal by 6-4, 3-6, 6-1, 3-6, 6-3 to win his 5th Australian Open title in 3 hours and 38 minutes. It’s his overall 18th grand slam title.
Runner up Nadal was aiming to win his 15th title to overtake Pete Sampras’s, they both are tied with 14th titles. He was also out for couple of months due to his injuries.

Nadal was on the top before this match, he has won all the three matches against Roger Federer at the Rod Laver Arena including the final of 2009. Overall, it’s their 9th meeting in grand slam final.
Before this final, Nadal commented on their rivalry, ‘’Was amazing for me, and I think for tennis, too. Its the combination of two different styles that makes the matches really special.’’ “Its a different way to play tennis. Both of us, I think, having a lot of good success with these two different styles. I feel that this rivalry go not only in the tennis world. Swiss star faced his rival again, his fans hoped he would able to take revenge of 2009 final and yes he did it. It’s been a great achievement for him at the age of 35. He waited for 7 years to win the Australian Open. He was out for 6 months due to his knee injury. He came, he fought and conquered, 17 seed Roger defeated top 10 tennis players. By winning this grand slam title, he is now the oldest player to win the grand slam.
He is breaking records one after another, now the first player to win the 3 different grand slam titles for 5 times. It was an unexpected comeback by Swiss star after his knee injury. I am going to keep fighting.” Roger said, ‘’Tennis is a tough sport, there are no draws but if there were I would have been happy to share it with Rafa. When we saw each other four or five months ago, we never believed we could be in the finals. I’m very happy for you, I would have been happy to lose.’’

– In mixed doubles, Spears and Cabal defeated Indian tennis star Sania Mirza and her partner Dodig by 6-2, 6-4. This was their first mixed doubles title.
