Series Report : Pakistan Vs World XI

Pakistan beat the World XI in 3 matches’ series by 2-1. In the inaugural match of the series, World XI won the toss and elected to bowl first. Pakistan with their young and talented batting line up set up a target of 198 runs. Fakhar Zaman (8) lost his wicket early on but after that Ahmed Shehzad (39) and Babar Azam (86) didn’t look back and provide a partnership of 128 runs. Then Shoaib Malik (38) took the charge as the most senior batsman and smashed some beautiful shots. At the end, Imad Wasim managed to score quick 15 runs on 4 balls. Faheem Ashraf, the debutant was not out on 0. Perera took 2 important wickets but he was expensive. Experienced World XI struggled in front of Pakistan’s bowlers. They set up an opening partnership of 43 runs which was broken by Rumman Raees. Paine (25) and Faf du Plessis (29) tried to score the target but couldn’t. They were 20 runs at the end of 20 runs. Sohail Khan, Rumman Raees and Shadab Khan took 2 wickets each. Babar Azam was awarded man of the man match for his wonderful inning.

In the second match, Pakistan again went to bat first and set up a total of 174 runs for the loss of 6 wickets. The prominent performers were the same as that of the last match includes Ahmed Shehzad (43), Babar Azam (45) and Shoaib Malik (39). Badree and Perera took 2 wickets each. Hashim Amla (72) with his brilliant fifty and Perera (47) with his quick runs, lead the team to win the second t20I match against the hosts. Perera was awarded man of the match for his all-rounder performance. With this win, World XI levelled the series with 1-1. This created more charm and fun to the final t20I match.

In the decider match, the hosts and guests both struggled hard to win the match and ultimately the Independence Cup series. But, it’s a game as one team have to definitely lose. In the final match, Pakistan again went to bat first and set up a target of 183 runs, that’s the highest score by any team in this cup. Fakhar Zaman (27) was looking in confidence but unluckily got run out. Again, Ahmed Shehzad (89) took the charge to beat up the bowlers and supported by middle order batsman Babar Azam (48) and Shoaib Malik (17). Hashim Amla (21) struggled to lead the team to victory but got run out by the contribution of Fakhar Zaman and generator boy Hasan Ali. At the end, Miller and Perera with 32 runs each, tried hard to win the match and smashed beautiful boundaries. But got catch out while trying to hit boundaries. World XI were 33 runs short to the target at the end of 20 overs. Young lad Hasan Ali took 2 wickets. Ahmed Shehzad was awarded as the man of the man for his match winning performance. While young, talented and right hand batsman Babar Azam was awarded as the man of the series for his strong performances in throughout the series.

Babar Azam (179), the right handed batsman was highest scorer of the Independence Cup with an average of 59 runs in a match, followed by Pakistan’s opener Ahmed Shehzad (171) with an average of 57 runs in a match and Hashim Amla, from World XI managed to score 119 runs with an average of 59 runs. World XI bowler, Perera lead the table with 6 wickets whereas, Pakistan’s Sohail Khan and Rumman Raees took 3 wickets each in the series.
