Champions Trophy 2017

The Big Final between Arch Rivals

Pakistan with no titles has qualified for the final of ICC Champions Trophy, for the very first time in their history. On the other hand, India is the most successful team in this tournament with 2 titles. Pakistan has been quite impressive in last few games, they have beaten the unbeaten England in semi final with 77 balls to spare. Due to this, their morale is high and are hopeful to repeat this outstanding performance against India in final. Where as India beat Bangladesh in a one sided match to qualify for the final. It’s a clash between the one who wanted to boycott the champions trophy, two months back versus the team who barely qualified for the champions trophy and with their brilliant performance this team made into the final. Let’s have a glance at the batting records by Pakistan and India in the ICC Champions Trophy events.

Shikar Dhawan with 680 runs in 9 matches is the most successful present batsman in the Indian squad. In Pakistan, Shoaib Malik from the present squad is the leading scorer with 368 runs in 19 matches. Shikhar Dhawan is also the leading run scorer with 317 runs in the Champions Trophy 2017 followed by Rohit Sharma with 304 runs.  Tamim Iqbal is on third place with 293 runs. Joe Root of England is at forth with 258 runs while Indian captain Virat Kohli is at fifth place with 253 runs. None of the Pakistani is in top five in this present event, this shows Pakistan rely totally on their bowling department rather than on batting line up.

Again Shikar Dhawan is leading the list of centurion with 3 centuries. Rohit Sharma from India and Shoaib Malik from Pakistan have also scored a century. Dhawan is at third position in highest runs in an inning after Joe Root and Tamim Iqbal followed by Rohit Sharma. From Pakistan, no one has scored a century so far.

Joe Root with 133* is the highest individual scorer in ICC Champions Trophy 2017 followed by Tamim Iqbal with 128 runs. Yet again, Dhawan with 123 runs is third highest scorer.

This batting stats clearly sums up the batting performances by both teams. Batting is always the backbone of Indian team where as Pakistan is famous for their strong bowling line up. If Pakistan would win the toss, they should go for bowling first as to restrict them to low total. But if Pakistan lose the toss then India would definitely choose to bowl first first because their bowling is weak, but they can chase 300 runs. If Pakistan while batting first will score 250+, then match would become interesting because Pakistan has capability to restrict this mighty batting line up within 250.

Pakistan have to take this game as a regular one. If Pakistan comes under pressure, then this will cost them. This young, energetic and least ranked team have made it to the final, that’s remarkable. Pakistan is just a win away from lifting the trophy for the very first time.
