Twitterati goes bang as Lahore Qalandars thrashed Multan Sultans by 6 wickets

The Lahore Qalandars took a brilliant stand against Multan Sultans in the 10th PSL clash at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium on Friday.

Lahore Qalandars pulled off a record 201-run chase on the very last ball of the innings courtesy aesthetically beautiful batting display by opener Fakhar Zaman, skipper AB De Villiers and David Wiese at the historic Sharjah Cricket Ground.

The men-in-green won the match by six wickets against Shoaib Malik-led Multan Sultans.

Junaid Khan put up a great show for the Sultans by taking three crucial wickets (Fakhar Zaman, Salman Butt and Agha Salman).

He was good but not good enough. Khan picked key wickets at key moments of the game but his no-ball to Wiese overshadowed the performance.

Brendan Taylor left the stadium retired hurt. It was the moment where the match gradually shifted in Sultans’ favour despite after Zaman’s 63 off 35.

But then there was Mr. 360. An unbeaten fifty, adding 98 in 7.3 overs with David Wiese, who contributed a no less important 45 not out that included the winnings runs, off the last ball.

The duo shared eight sixes, taking an incredible 73 from the last five.

Earlier, The Qalandars rode a 135-run opening stand provided by Umar Siddiq (53 off 38) and James Vince (84 off 41) to become the first side to reach score 200 runs in PSL 2019.

Such was the Sultans’ scintillating start that the massive total almost felt a little short by the end of their innings. The culpable party was the Sultans’ middle order which failed to truly capitalise on Siddiq and Vince’s demolition job up top.

Lamichhane was the lead wicket taker with 3 wickets to his name, followed by Shaheen Afridi and Haris Rauf who claimed one a piece.

AB De Villiers comments after the match:

“It got a bit closer than I hoped for at the end. I was fortunate in being able to take my time at the beginning of my innings. David Wiese takes a lot of the pressure off me, being a boundary hitter. I get very nervous. To the youngsters out there, my message is that it’s ok to feel nervous in a situation like this, just take it one over at a time.”
