It was lights out and away the drivers go start at the Sochi Autodrome this evening. Valtteri Bottas picked up the momentum in the opening lap and got ahead of Sebastian Vettel.
Fernando Alonso had to retire again for the fourth time in four races due to “technical problems” in the formation lap.
A safety car was again deployed this year on the first corner of the track when Jolyon Palmer and Romain Grosjean made a contact which made them go hit the barriers and they had to retire. Daniel Ricciardo had to retire from the race as well since his brakes fired up.
Bottas and Vettel were battling for the 1st position throughout the race. In the last lap Vettel almost could’ve overtake Bottas until Felipe Massa came in between them and Bottas become 5th finnish to win a Formula 1 Grand Prix and 107th driver to win the Formula 1 Grand Prix.
Vettel finished behind Bottas with only the gap of 0.6 seconds while Kimi Raikonen got his career’s 84th podium and finished 3rd in the race.
Lewis Hamilton finished 4th. He kept on saying on the team radio that he is facing some handling issues and the car was not heating up.
The Russian President Vlamdir Putin was at the podium ceremony.
Sebastian Vettel leads the Formula 1 Championship 2017 with 13 points ahead of Lewis Hamilton, who could not race upto his potential this evening.
