Was it the right decision to sack Darren Sammy as Captain?

In the recent Caribbean Premier League, ST Lucia Stars which is headed by the experienced leader, Darren Sammy who has been going through a poor run in the tournament thus far having lost all the matches and unfortunately did not get the taste of victory till now despite having a powerful squad. The management of the side had seem to be frustrated with how the team was performing in every match so they came up with an idea of sacking the captain and appointing a new one in Shane Watson as maybe new leadership may bring positive results for the team. Although was it right to sack someone like Sammy who has had a glorious captaincy record in his Cricket Career?

We all know the impressive achievements of the Caribbean Superstar Darren Sammy as a skipper, becoming the only captain to win two T20I World Cups and bringing a major ICC trophy to the Caribbean after 8 long years.  Recently, Sammy added another trophy to his cabinet after winning the second edition of the Pakistan Super League leading Peshawar Zalmi brilliantly to glory. A man who has had such a tremendous captaincy career gets removed as a leader because of losing 6 consecutive matches in the league sounds pretty harsh as the Captain cannot be put into blame if the team players fail to put up their absolute best in all games.

The Newly appointed Skipper, Shane Watson who is another quite talented and a senior player of the sport does not really have a captaincy record that would instantly convince you to appoint him replacing a two-time world cup winning captain however Watson was the best possible option in the side to be given the role of a skipper considering the fact that the Aussie has a little bit of experience. Watson played his first match as Captain for the Stars yesterday but unfortunately could not make any difference as They faced another heavy loss which makes it clear that even the change in leadership could not make things right for the ST Lucians.

Shane Watson still has a couple of matches left to give the St Lucia fans something to cheer about in the entire Caribbean Premier League 2017. But it can still be said that removing a veteran like Sammy in doing what he does best after some disappointing results is no doubt unfair since few losses cannot overshadow his accomplishments in the past and there is no denying to the fact that Darren Sammy is arguably a brave and a very skillful leader.
