AUS v IND 2018

WATCH: Tim Paine answers a Journalist’s phone during press conference and here’s what he said

Tim Paine is getting so many solid comedy bits he might take it on the road at the end of his career — and his latest is pure gold.

The Australian skipper was fronting the media after one of the toughest days in the field of his career with two Indian players passing 150.

A downbeat Paine was in the middle of a difficult questioning when one of the journalists phones started ringing.

The Aussie skipper answered the call and was polite enough to take a message.

“Tim Paine speaking … who is it sorry? Who are you after?” Paine asked.

“Martin? He’s in the middle of a press conference, can I get him to call you back?”

The exchange had the room laughing as Paine told “Casey from Hong Kong” to “Martin” was “in a press conference, can he call you back?”

Apparently Casey wanted Martin to check his emails.

Here’s the moment we’re talking about:

The journalists in the room could see the funny side, sharing a laugh with Paine.

It was a lighthearted way to end a tough day for the captain, who had spent two and a half sessions crouched behind the stumps watching his bowlers being pummelled by the Indian batsmen.

Social media quickly reacted to the hilarious exchange:

It was a tough press conference for Paine with hard questions about how Australia were going in the Test and their goals over the past 12 months.

What has happened so far??

Earlier, Banter between Australian skipper Tim Paine and Indian wicket-keeper Rishabh Pant, Virat Kohli was at its hilarious best during the series with all of them taking shots at each other.

Aussie skipper was chatting to Indian gloveman Rishabh Pant as the visitors were batting in their second innings on day three.

Paine pointed out the former Indian captain MS Dhoni has been called into the Indian ODI squad, potentially freeing up Pant for some domestic action in Australia.

Transcript of Paine, Finch and Pant’s chat:

“Tell you what, big MS is back in the one-day squad, we might get him (Pant) down to the Hurricanes, this bloke,Paine said to Aaron Finch at short leg.

“We need a batter. Not if he keeps blocking them,”

“Fancy that, Panty? Surely, extend your little Aussie holiday,” Paine asked the Indian keeper.

“Beautiful town Hobart, too. We’ll get you a nice apartment on the waterfront.

“We’ll have him over for dinner. Can you babysit? I’ll take the wife to the movies one night, you’ll look after the kids?”

It was widely expected that Rishabh Pant will dish it out to Australian captain Tim Paine when the latter walked out to bat in the second innings and that is just what happened at the MCG on Saturday.

VIDEO: Tim Paine won the Kohli-Paine epic battle with his final dig

Indian wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant has reignited the sledging war with Tim Paine, with a brutal return of serve.

Pant welcomed his counterpart to the crease on day four of the Boxing Day Test, with a cutting remark suggesting Paine is merely warming the seat for the next Australian skipper.

Here’s the transcript of Pants sledging:

“Have you heard of a temporary captain ever?” Pant questioned as Paine began his innings with Australia in trouble at 5-135 chasing 399

“We’ve got a special case today, come on boys. Special appearance today boy. Come on. No responsibility there from captain.

“Running away always, always running away. Too difficult, too difficult….We’ve got a special guest today.

“Have you heard of a temporary captain ever? Have you heard of it? Have you heard of anything like a temporary captain ever? You don’t need anything to get him out, boy.

“He loves to talk. That’s the only thing he can do boy. Only talking, talking.”

In one instance, Paine suggested Pant stay back in Australia after the Test series and play for the Hobart Hurricanes in the BBL while taking over as babysitter for his kids.

As it turned out, Pant did agree on taking a picture with Paine’s kids during the event at Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison’s residence.

When queried, how the whole photo opportunity was set up, Paine revealed that with his wife Bonnie present at PM’s house during the meet, they opted to go for a quick photograph to make the banter memorable. Paine went on to praise Pant’s sportsmanship spirit and said the chatter between the two has been light-hearted and friendly.

The behind-the-stump chatter between the two has been one of the highlights from the series. After Paine’s sledge aimed at Pant, Indian wicket-keeper returned the ‘favour’ by terming Tim as ‘temporary captain,’ for which he was warned by the on-field umpires.

“Yeah, that was interesting. We were at the PM’s house yesterday. Just had a quick chat to Rishabh. My wife was happened to be there so we just grabbed a quick photo. He was a good sport and he is on the field to be honest,” Paine said during a press conference.

A fair bit has been made of a little bit of banter between two wicketkeepers, which has been pretty light-hearted and pretty friendly. I enjoy the way he goes about it. I wish I played that way when I was his age. He looks like he has hell of a lot of fun, Paine added.
