PSL 2018

Why Karachi Kings is more dangerous than other teams?

In the previous two seasons Karachi Kings seemed to be the most hyped team in the Pakistan Super League before and after the drafts. But fans were a bit disappointed in the previous two years which poor selection of players from the draft. Karachi Kings literally wasted some picks and went for the wrong options. The management during the first two edition also seemed to be dull in the first half of the league until the realized but it was always too late.

Last year Pollard was brought into the playing line-up in the last stage. They kept on giving Gayle chances and he kept on balling dot balls until he gave a catch into the fielder’s hand at the boundary. Bopara was Karachi’s leading wicket taker in the first season but was rarely given a over or so in the second season. But still somehow Karachi made it till the play-offs in the last two seasons.

Things seemed pretty weird this year during the player retention round where Karachi was fine with retaining Khurram Manzoor. They could have plenty of options but it is out of a common man’s thinking ability to understand the policies of Karachi’s team management.

This year, there were plenty of options for Karachi in the platinum round and they made a very smart decision to chose Colin Ingram.

People are tagging his pick as a waste of time but Ingram has been in fine form for Glamorgan in the past two seasons. Glamorgan fans have been calling him ”Kingram” recently. He was nominated for the Natwest T20 Blast Player of The Years this year and was the Royal London One-Day Cup Player of The Year this season. He became the only player to score two T20 hundreds within the span of two weeks. He scored 501 runs in 14 matches in the T20 format with a century as well. This season he cored 462 runs in 14 T20 matches with two centuries. He has been in fine form, healthy strike in both limited overs format. Has a strike rate of 160+ since last two seasons in T20s. In shorter words, Colin is a bestubbled, bruising Left-Hander.

In the next round KK went on picking the Aussie veteran, Mitchell Johnson.

Now the people taking about his age are the same one’s who wanted their sides to pick him. He’s fine so far. He was a blazing comet in the recent BBL season and did a pretty good job with Mumbai in the IPL this year. His aggression is what Karachi was missing since the first season and now they have it. They have a pretty good bowling combination now, having Johnson, Amir and if used, Tabish Khan as well.

Ravi Bopara, again, a very good cricketer for the shorter format of the game.

He had a very rough and tough season last year but seems to be in fine touch this year. Karachi did a great job to retain him. He’s having a very good time in the BPL so far these days and was a bit flamboyant for Essex this year. He can hit hard and bowl slower one’s. Needs to bowl next season for Karachi! This season he has scored 551 runs in 25 T20 innings while bagged 15 wickets. He’s A talented, wristy strokeplayer, capable of opening the innings or batting in the middle order.

Karachi Kings picked Luke Wright which is not understandable when their were many alternatives but it’s not bad either.

He can open or play down the order. A very useful batsman. Luke Wright is the Duracell bunny of English cricket. His energy and enthusiasm seems boundless. David Wiese. A sensible pick. He’ll be available through out the season. But he shouldn’t be treated like Ryan McLaren was last season. Wiese is a T20 specialist and was once dubbed as the next Jacques Kallis. Signed a kolpak deal with Sussex earlier this year and had a pretty good time holding the ball. He’s an imposing all-rounder who can bowl fast and hit long lofted shots.

In the supplementary picks Karachi’s decision to go with Morgan and Munro is pretty decent.

They won’t be available for the first few matches or more due to national duty but will be available or might be, for the second half of the tournament. Morgan is no doubt one of the best in the business and if available, can anchor Karachi’s middle order. Munro has been in a great form for the past few months. Was one of the best batsman in CPL 2017. If available, can make Karachi set or chase big totals.

Karachi did a smart job when it came to pick overseas players this season. Unlike last two seasons but the whole squad can’t just rely on the overseas players only! Some new names might be introduced to cricket Pakistan. No one knows what is in Karachi’s fate in the next edition of PSL but one thing we can say is that they’ll be heading out with a squad with a great combination of players.
